The Importance of Financial Pledges
As we finalize plans each year, a key piece is the consideration of our financial needs. The Pledge Program helps us resolve that puzzle.
For years the Pledge Program has received strong support in the fellowship. Everyone has rallied around this necessity with great charity and open hearts. Paul and the First Century Church likewise used a “Pledge Program” and advocated regular contributions to it (see 2 Cor. 9:5; 1 Cor.16:2).
Our ministry efforts are either limited or expanded based on these pledges, and past experience shows that we receive close to what was pledged. By the end of January we hope to complete our financial picture for the coming year, based on the pledges received (see our annual planning schedule).
Beyond financial support, contributors are involved in the Fiscal Support Team (FST). At the annual FST Retreat we come together to review the ministry of the church, offering prayers and support to each other’s ministry spheres. What a vital way for everyone to participate in the ministry! Clearly our efforts are beyond human means, and only the Lord’s strength and miraculous power can bear this kind of fruit.
There are so many servants already donating time and other resources, and yet how amazing it is to see even more sacrificial giving through the financial ministry! Yet we all know that “When the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory” (1 Pet.5:4). As we lay a spiritual foundation for successive generations of Christians in Northeastern Ohio and the surrounding areas, by God’s grace let it be said that “they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability, entirely on their own” (2 Cor. 8:3).
